Hacienda Luisita workers only earn P9.46 per day

A group of more than 50 Hacienda Luisita workers who were rescued and are now at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

The workers lamented that they were not given food rations and had to fend for themselves by hunting frogs to fill their hungry stomachs.

They complained of not receiving their salaries that ranged from P9.46 to P128.31 pesos per day. A clear violation of the minimum wage law for Region 3 which is P334 daily.

Another violation is the Hacienda workers are forced to work 13 hours a day.

Hacienda Luisita has a long history of several labor code violations, in a separate occasion, former employees from Negros complained about not receiving the agreed salary when they were contracted to work for a week.
